One of our dorm daughters is in this video.
(Yes... The one preparing the delicious armadillo!)
We don't want to say much. We are just so thankful that we get to be part of God's story in her life. We are blessed to live under the same roof.
So blessed to serve here!
Happy New Year!!
I am up late finishing up some last details for my workshop tomorrow at a local Bible Institute, so just wanted to send you a quick email to update you and give you some prayer requests for January. Please pray for us as we get a month that is heavy with Teaching and Training Opportunities.
January 13th,20th, 27th. Maris will be doing short workshops on Biblical Counseling for our core planting team.
January 1st. Kick off for our series on First Principles of the Faith. Preaching on "Good resolutions vs God resolutions"
January 7th. Teaching a workshop at IBCI (Bible Institute) on Servant Leadership.
January 8th. Teaching the kids class (La Fuentecita) and presenting a short "distinctive" on giving.
January 15th. Preaching on Baptism.
January 20nd Seminar and Introduction for the "Truth Project" more on this soon.
January 22th Preaching on Cultivating our Relationships.
January 28th Officiating the wedding of our great friends Gustavo (Brazil) and Amy (USA)
Discipleship Opportunities. Maris continues to meet with her Wednesday night girls and I am so excited to see how those relationships have been deepening. She has also been approached by a really influential 11th grader and they have been having some great times together. Please continue to pray for those opportunities as well as her relationship with many of our ladies in the church. She is pretty awesome... (non married single bros... marry well!!) ahah. Anyways, on my part I wanted to ask for your prayers as I have started a book study (Don't waste your life) with a group of guys from church. I am hoping that his would become an accountability group (idea that somehow is totally unheard of after 100 years of missionary history in Ecuador) Please pray as this is a group that I have been spending time in the gym and through conversations they seem to have a great desire to pass that superficial level of relationships.
Alliance Academy (Academics). We will be finishing the semester in two weeks. Please pray for more opportunities to love on the kids. Please also pray for the great amount of work (reports, write ups, report cards, observations, testing) that are part of closing a Semester and how to do that with excellence as we manage our various responsabilities.
Alliance Academy (Dorm parents). We got news a few days ago that one of our kids is leaving the country in two weeks. It has been a heavy issue in our hearts as he is a great kid, but is really close to "religion". He is not a believer and has had a really hard time adapting to the country, the school and his life in Ecuador. We are sad to think that he is leaving and we ask you to join us on continuing to pray for his salvation and God's plan for his life. Please also pray for thoughts of discouragement of "did we do enough?"
Speaking of people leaving the last week has been really hard emotionally. Today was the memorial service for a beloved friend of my Hoffman family (and mine since I met him last year) in the US. We are thankful that he is in glory with the Lord. Our prayers go for his family that has been a great example of putting Christ on display through this hard time.
On the other hand, the Moncayos (Fernando and Dalila) are packing and moving January 20th to the US to reconnect with my sister and brother that have been there for the last 3 years. We were able to have the whole family over and it was a great family celebration. As joyous as it was it was also hard to visit the house were I grew up and think that "our house" will be owned by someone else in a few weeks. The Lord has been so good and is teaching us about putting our treasures in heaven, yet loving in a godly way the blessings that He has given on Earth. I will probably write more about this on the blog but I just wanted to ask for your prayers.
THANK YOU!!
Anyways... through it all... we are so excited to be here in Ecuador. I have been back for 3 years now and I realize that either in the US or Ecuador, we will always be pilgrims and aliens longing for "home". We are thankful for a God that promises for a home that is not in the US, or Ecuador, but with Him in heaven when there will be no more goodbyes, nor tear, nor sorrows... As we start 2012 we could not be more excited to see God's hands leading us so clearly and showing us our part on His big plan here in Ecuador. There are many needs and decisions that we must make soon. Would you please prayerfully consider joining us and allowing us to continue spreading the name of Jesus in Ecuador? The Lord didn't need to but He has shown us and made us committed to Ecuador as never before. Honestly, it's a beautiful yet scary place to be. There is so much going on and I continue to think of a quote that my friend Geoff Williams shared with me... "it's not if God is doing something but that I don't want to miss it!" Maris and I both feel that way and wanted to say thank you for your love and your desire to keep up with what is going on here in Ecuador. We wouldn't be able to do it without your prayers! This new year has a lot of new challenges and exciting things coming.
Blessings and Strictly Jesus!

PS. We are working on a new website and video.. Keep your eye out for that and let us know if you would like to help us :) For now.. here is a trailer I did for an event at church. Enjoy.

It has been a long time since I felt like blogging. Partly, I feel that I have been too busy to breath and actually allow myself to think about what to say. Now on the other hand, it's hard to blog having forgotten my password for my OLD SCHOOL blog. Oh, that Old School blog!
Let me give you a short history on my relationship with blogging. Way before myspace, facebook, blogspot, tumblr, and twitter were known , there was a site called xanga. In 2002 a girlfriend introduced me to the idea of blogging and since I liked her, I decided to get an account. To be honest, I didn't really like it. With time, I found myself really enjoying expressing ideas in that way, and started writing everything. The inevitable happened and she broke up with me; leaving Juanito stuck thousands of miles away from home, learning a lot, yet feeling really lonely. Blogging became a way in which God worked in my heart and helped me cope with my life alone in the U.S. From wrestling on living out my faith on a real way, breakups , being homesick, mistakes, joys, being laid off, moving, traveling,... that blog became a great way to externalize in a healthy way what God was doing. Through sitting down and writing the little mishaps of the ecuadorian kid, God taught me a lot and I experienced God on ways that I had never experienced before. I grew in my faith rapidly and with my growth the blog also grew. I still remember traveling with www.onetruth.com and hearing from random people how they had found my blog and God somehow used it in their lives. One of those visitors actually ended up key on me being able to pay my college years.. crazy heh?!
Anyways, why am I saying all of this? Because I have been praying for God to do something in my heart and the last week has found me wresstling and getting beat up (with love) by a God who is relentless on showing me that He has a beautiful plan ahead.
Yesterday, my wife and I were on the roof of the building shooting a video with our friends from http://www.halleproject.org/ and it hit me. The beautiful Quito skyline was reminded me that God has a beautiful horizon ahead. A horizon that I have not been able to enjoy or think clearly because I have been reacting to not let go of what has happened before. Not just the situations and memories, but I see that I am holding to wanting to see God work on the same ways that He used to or he had done it in the past. I was convicted that I want to experience Him in the same ways that I did when I was sitting down alone in my apartment, late at night writing those blog entries and how that propelled me to the day to day life.
God was reminding me on that roof that the best is yet to come. To let go. To go back to enjoying Him for who HE is and not for who He has been. He has been faithful and true, yet there is much of God to experience and learn. To enjoy time with Him without thinking too much on what should be my correct, perfect response. To sit still and know that He is God. So today, as I gave up on waiting for that response email to reset my password, I am closing that page convinced that I haven't seen anything yet. Convinced that God will work in beautiful ways. Convinced that I need to let God be God (for my own JOY). To be reminded of the principles, to go back to basics, to find my first love every day. To live by Faith and how that looks like now as I lead my beautiful wife here in Quito... Ecuador here we come (again!)
Grace and Peace,
j

Here is a bit of what has been going on in our lives since our return from the US this Summer. Yes... we have 7 kids and you want to hear more about it. First we wanted to share with you what is going on with other areas of our ministry here. Thank you for reading this and your love!
Discipleship/Counseling . The last few months have been heavy and heart breaking, as sin issues have come up with some members in the church. Sin promises a lot, but ends up destroying. Please pray for a few marriages that are on the line, because of brokenness from poor decisions, and heavy hearts due to health problems, finances, etc. On the other hand, the gospel is penetrating lives and people are maturing in their faith. This process is slow and intense and it's humbling to see how much more committed the Lord is to the sanctification of his church, than we are.
Please pray for us as the need for counselors is great . The Lord has been so faithful to encourage us through this time through some great conversations and meetings with Ana Cecilia (who was saved last year and baptized during the Summer) and with Jonathan (a guy that was totally against church). They are both growing so much and it has been a privilege to see how the gospel is transforming their lives! Ana Cecilia is becoming a prayer warrior and an avid reader, that is zealous for loving and encouraging people with the Word. Jonathan has become a champion on understanding and sharing the importance of community and church to his friends, who he previously told the opposite. Please pray for them.
Related to this point, please pray for my awesome MARIS as she is planning on finishing her NANC certification. This will be huge, not only for the church plant and lack of biblical counseling in Ecuador, but as a tool for our extended ministry with the School.
Teaching. Coming back from the states I have had the privilege of teaching often. After closing the book of Ephesians, we had a short Biblical Counseling series on the gospel as a filter for life. This series resulted in an intense Q&A session, that I was able to moderate. Finally, last week I was able to launch our new series on the book of Genesis. Please pray for this new series as we are a lot of visitors checking out the church and and we have a lot of baby Christians.
Networking . Last year the first missions organization to come to Ecuador announced that they were closing Ecuador as a field. One of the missionaries that stayed in Ecuador approached me a few months ago and asked me to meet with a leader of one of the churches that they had planted 30 years ago. This church was one of the strongest in Quito. It has been through a lot and is currently dying. Please pray for the Lord's wisdom on this. At the same time, right before getting this call, we had been praying for an opportunity to rent a local or find something not that expensive to buy. We have had a really hard time with this and are at capacity level at our current local (living room from one of the members that got saved last year) The church that we met with (the one I was speaking of above), has offered us to use their property for free.
Training . We wanted to ask for your prayers as BILD international is allowing us to launch an Antioch School in Ecuador. We have a cohort of 6 people that the leadership of the church has been pouring into. They will be the first to start this official training program. Our prayer is for this program to help us train leaders for our church plant and eventually to provide this program on a national level. Currently Compassion Connection has a Bible Institute and we are excited for this opportunity.
Dorm Parenting. I could write a 2 page update only on this point. It has been an area that the Lord is using majorly in our lives to stretch us and to learn to rely more on Him. We are loving being dorm parents and we are hit daily with the potential to make a difference in the lives of the kids that we have been entrusted with. From the relationship with our kids that are mature in the Lord and the opportunity to disciple them and their friends from school because of our role as "parents"; to our hearts understanding on a deeper level, of the sovereignty of God as we deal with students from other cultures that don't speak the language well, or other students asking tough questions about God and struggling with the transition. We love them a lot. We covet your prayers. Also, we have made great friendship with the student teachers that are staying at the dorm, please pray for them as they have been a great encouragement. One of them might even do a guest update in the future.
Moncayo's moving the U.S. Please pray for my family (Fernando and Dalila). The instability in Ecuador is a major reality and my dad was laid off last Friday. I am so thankful that the Lord is sovereign over all events, but it's hard to see how unfair and evil a "system" could be with the people that have served so faithfully and love their country. I am thankful that one of the beautiful aspects of the cross, is that Jesus died to bring justice and there is a comfort in that. In the same way, there is a bigger desire in our hearts for people to know Him and put their trust on Him and not false ideas of hope.Through it all, my parents are confident that the Lord is the provider and they will be OK. Please pray for them and us in this transition. They are planning on moving to the U.S. in February and they are looking forward to spending time with my sister, her husband and little baby in CA. On a personal note, please pray for Ecuador and the "rumors" of new laws that would continue to take the liberties of many and especially heavily infringe on the freedom to worship or the type of work that we do here.
Support. Please continue to pray for us as we seek to raise support. We have been serving in Ecuador with the small stipend that the school provides, yet the last few months have been a wake up call to realize that we need to plan ahead in case something happens and that we need to be more careful and purposeful on raising support. We love Ecuador and we see the importance of the work that the Lord has for us here. Please consider partnering with us in this.
Some other prayer requests.
Children's Ministry. We are helping or teaching at "Fuentecita" the children's ministry of our church.
Chapel. We are speaking for Elementary Chapel on October the 27th.
The Truth Project. We will be leading Focus on the Family's Truth project for the staff at the School. Please pray for us to encourage and have a good influence to many people in leadership in this community.
Bendiciones desde latitud 0. We would love to hear from you!
Los Moncayos
I want to start off by saying thank you! After our last update, we were showered with emails that reminded us in a practical way of God's love for us shown by your love and your commitment to be part of our lives! We are both feeling a lot better. Maris was able to fight that cold within a week or two and I finished my meds. and haven't had symptoms in a little over a week. By the way... shingles= not fun.
Speaking of shingles, apparently in Ecuador they prescribe people that are coming out of them with anti-depressants so that you don't have a recurrence. I do not like to take medicines and this has been a challenging and humbling time. If you know me, I LOVE to be busy and cross things of my to-do-list. With these medicines I have become a zombie and it's extremely hard to get up and get on a rhythm not to mention that by early afternoon, I am ready to go to bed. My wife has been such an encouragement and has been so understanding, patient and loving with me, but it has been hard. Everything has taken double the time to do. It takes a lot of work to just engage in conversations, and specially try to keep up with my students with special needs.
On the other hand, the Lord has really taught me a lot of things that I know I believe mentally, but I see I have a hard time living them out. He has been teaching me that His love for me is not dependent in how busy I am nor how many things I do for Him a day, but just on His Grace and Christ's death on the cross.
I just wanted to take a moment to share and be honest with you about what the Lord has been teaching me. For some reason, I see that in the back of my mind I end up feeling guilty if I don't give you "something worth reading" about how God is working in Ecuador. By God's grace we can say that everything that we have done accounts to NOTHING compared to what Christ did and we celebrated a few Sunday's ago. Christ gave it all on the cross so that our identity as a (teacher, missionary, pastor, business man, mom, dad, husband, fill in the blank) is based on His work and not ours.
Tonight I wanted to encourage you to take the time that you would spend reading of what the Lord is doing in Ecuador and spend it being reminded of everything that you have and that which He has already done in your life!
Love you and can't wait to see you this summer,
IN Christ,
Jota
P.S. Yes... there is much to update you on. I didn't plan to write this but it's what God put in my heart.
P.S.#2 This took me way to long to write!

I have to be honest and say that through the whole International Conference my mind was thinking a lot and all over the place. AAI asked me to do 3 workshops for Ecuadorian teachers for the joint day of the conference with Ecadorian Educators on Saturday. I have never done something like that in Spanish and its an understatement that it was a big stretch and way out of my comfort zone. I have to add that I not only had to prep for the conference but my talk was selected as one of the workshops that got radio promotion on HCJB (major local radio station) during premier airing time!
After I got over myself and was reminded of how the Lord has been so faithful to always come through and that He is the one infront as I humble myself (did i mention that I was sick, slept 2 hours and my English set-up of Power point would not cooperate with Spanish characters?) The talk went great and I was able to connect with my audience. This was specially tricky because let's face it...I have a baby face and culturally, people expect to see an older seasoned professional to be presenting in these types of conferences. God reminded me of Timothy and how it is not about me but to be faithful to His word and let HIm do the work. One of the most encouraging parts of my time was that people left really moved by thinking of the greatness of God and our key role as vessels for Him. Speaking of that I met a lady that decided to go to the conference because of the radio interview. She was in tears as she had been fighting trying to help her child through painful years of schooling. She said that the workshop didn't only allow her to get practical advice on how to love and help his son, but reminded her of God's sovereignty, perfect plan and love through it all. All that to say, the Lord was so faithful to work beyond all my human frailties to bring glory to Himself and at the end of the day, I looked back to see such beauty in so many details.
Just taking a minute to ask for your prayers.
This past Monday I received a short shocking call from my aunt in which I was informed that my parent's house in the valley was flooding and that my mom was alone at home. My wife and I live in the city, so it took us some time to get out there, but on our way we called some beloved friends that went to check on the situation. When we got there the sight was horrible, as 1 ft of freezing cold mud water sat all over the first floor of the house's wooden floors. The house was built about a foot and half higher than ground level so the outside was worst. I was told by neighbors that the car (an SUV) that was parked outside had water passed the hood of the car. Inside, the sight was horrible. My mom was crying and soaked by the cold water. The walls had a mud water line at around 3.5ft. Everything in the house had some water damage. Telephone, computer, sofas, carpets, furtniture and other things and appliances all were either floating or sunk inside the house. The fridge had tilted and was on the ground, and my mom's decorations that she had taken to decorate the house were spread all over. The cleaning and survey of household items is a tedious and exhausting process. Today, 4 days later we still can't assess the damage.
Thank you for your time and we covet your prayers. Please pray for the Lord's comfort through it all. Pray for God's provision and strength as my family works hard to bring the house back to the place of hospitality and blessing that it has been known for.
In Christ,
Juan Fernando
Dear friends and family,
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
Being back in Ecuador has brought me back to basics and being reminded on how the Lord brought me to himself.
If you haven't heard the story the Lord used my desire to learn English to bring me to his feet in 98. On the Summer of 98 I went on a Summer Student Exchange program to the US with the sole desire to become fluent in English. Little did I know that God had planned to make my textbook his very own Word. As I was wrestling with understanding the Bible Lessons and sermons that my host family took me to.. God's word was breaking my stony heart. The best way to summarize what happened that summer is a my prayer in tears in Indio California the night before I came to Ecuador. " Dear Lord I thought I came to learn English, yet I see that I go back with a lot more... I learned truly who You are.. and now I am yours". That summer changed my life forever.
The story is really similar for a group of people from my church that has been praying to start an evangelistic English Class. My church is launching tomorrow a program in which we hope to utilize the strong desire of Ecuadorian people to learn English to expose people to the power of the Bible.
Specific prayer requests.
-The program is being started from the ground up so pray for the planning, administration, teaching.
-Pray for the teachers to find grace in the eyes of the students so that lasting relationships can be started.
-Pray for students to experience something different interacting with the believers of the church.
-Pray for the Lord to give the students endurance. Learning a language is not easy and the devil can use that frustration to pull people from the program.
-Pray for qualified WORKERS!
-Pray for attendance. Not numbers but to have the perfect amount of people for the leaders that we have.
-Pray for me (Juan) as I am in charge of the Children's program. I have to admit that sometimes it looks like a monumental task considering that my church always gets A LOT of kids for any events.
NOTE: If you have or know of someone that has teaching background, and has material or experience on teaching Psalms... Please let us know!
Alright friends... Thank you for your time and there is nothing better than being working to find those lost sheep.
IN Christ
Juan
Queridos Amigos y familia!
Buenos Dias and greeting from latitude zero. It is a beautiful day in which the Cotopaxi volcano (one of the highest active volcanoes in the World) seems to tower over the clouds and mountains to remind me of how small I am, as well of the beauty, creativity and power of the God that is in control of every detail in my life… So here I am sitting at a coffee shop in the San Rafael Valley sipping on some fresh delicious jugo de naranjilla and being reminded of what the Lord has been doing in my last 2 and a half months here in Ecuador.
I want to start the update by apologizing for not sending one sooner. I ask you to understand that I had to be consumed and busy on trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. I lived in the US by myself for about 10 years, and returning home was really challenging in many different aspects and for various reasons. God had important lessons to teach my heart, and I needed to take those head on. By the time I felt ready to email, the Lord had opportunities to serve and minister that kept me busy until recently.
Unfortunately, it would take forever to update you on every lesson that the Lord has been teaching me. Ecuador has been the perfect canvas for the Lord to paint important lessons about practical Christian living, service, missions, love, relationships, family, grace, obedience, service, Jesus and many other important things in my life. I say paint because it has been a beautiful, yet sometimes messy and creative process. I think in short, my return to Ecuador has been a time in which the Lord took the different parts of Juan and is merging them into who He wants me to be. From a boy growing up in Ecuador, to traveling all over the place Juan, touring music Juan, crazy wanting to be involved in evangelism Juan, Business working in a bank Juan, music/entertainment Juan, TMC/ RA Juan, older brother Juan and using all those to make me a more complete man that is being transformed to look more like Jesus. Anyways, If you would want to hear more about some of those lessons please feel free to email me or ask me about my other blog in which I have written about some of those battles and lessons.
Anyways, so here is how this is going to have to work out… I am outlining some of the things that the Lord has allowed me to do and try to add a little description or give you a little background.
Also, I believe that a picture is worth a thousand words so please feel free to visit my photo album.
Here we go:
-Church. I am blessed to be attending a church that was started by some incredible missionaries from Texas. They have been involved in church planting for many years and bring great wisdom, experience and insight into a solid church. They have a “mother” church in my city and have started planting small churches around the area that are being lead by Ecuadorian locals. The Lord is moving and there are plenty of opportunities to serve.
-VBS. We had Vacation Bible School at the “mother” church and had the opportunity to stop by and help on the daughter churches programs as well. The kids are beautiful and hungry to learn! I got to teach the 12-15 year old class, as well as help in various capacities from “crowd control”, games and reinforcing the message for all the kids with questions when we had all the small groups together.
-Outreach. We have been doing outdoor evangelism campaigns that have been targeted for children. As one of my teachers from college said, “love their children well, and the adults will want to hear what you have to say.” This was a great way to promote the different VBS programs.
-Travesia. (This is the ministry in the coast). Took two trips there to reconnect with the community. We did a Bible Study and have been trying to get there more often. Our job is to encourage the new believers as well as to teach them from the word. They do not have a local church. Please pray for my trip there in the next few weeks and for the Lord to continue to work through a church in that area. Also some great friends from California donated money that we will use to buy school supplies. Also pray because recently the RCC has started to send their workers and has threatened people that come to our studies. Please pray.
-Jungle. As soon as I returned to Ecuador, I was offered the opportunity to help in the jungle with a young team from the US. After praying, I felt that I had to turn it down because it would have taken me away from my new local church in which I was trying to build relationships. It was a hard decision, as I LOVE the jungle. However, the Lord is so faithful and good, and a few weeks later my church took a fun and godly team from the US to do evangelistic work. I had the privilege of working for the first time with my church family from Sangolqui (the city where my church is located) here is a video of our time there.
-Construction and encouragement. We also received a visit from a team from Friendship Baptist Church in Oklahoma. They have been really generous in helping our daughter churches have their own building. They brought a numerous team of people with huge hearts and a desire to serve to help with the various work needed in each building. By the end of their time we dedicated 3 churches! It was a blessing to translate as well as to spend time with them and be used to expose some of them to what the Lord is doing overseas.
-Music. The Lord gave me the incredible privilege of playing percussion for church and as of this week (and because my brother left last Saturday to study in the States,) I am now playing drums . EKKK! it has been a while!
-XMusicX. My siblings and some beloved friends have a music band that plays hard rock music in secular venues. Many of you guys know that I was involved on that type of ministry in the past. I love being able to connect and minister to people that would never set a foot in church. People in the underground cultures that have the wrong idea of what Christianity is about. I have been reminded that light only is different on the context of darkness. The Lord already opened some opportunities and great conversations. Please pray for this ministry as we look for a replacement for my brother and more opportunities to minister.
-Family. I could write about this forever. My time with my close family has been rich and beautiful. At the same time it has been hard as the people closer to you know you best and can see clearly when you are sinful. It has been such a growing time to learn to love people and learn about family and the simplicity and beauty of life again. I am so blessed.
My extended family is divided between believers and unbelievers. I have been encouraged and trying to encourage my believing fa
mily. I have enjoyed talking with my Abuelita who is a HUGE testimony of the grace of God. She came to the Lord a few years ago and she is now ON FIRE for the Lord and so in love with the word! Then trying to be purposeful and real about preaching the gospel with my actions with the rest of my family. Please pray for boldness, compassion and opportunities.
-People. At the end of the day it’s all about people and relationships. I am excited and blessed of my new friendships. Having the College group meet at home and giving them rides every week, going to eat, playing soccer, watching a movie, or just spending time with them challenges me to be purposeful with my words and my affections. My prayer is not to be religious and overbearing with facts about God, but to share and encourage in love making all that theology in my head practical and simple to be lived on the day to day.
-Beauty. How to being to explain this one? When I left Ecuador 10 years ago, I had been a b
eliever for a few months and I was on a different stage in life. Returning with somewhat of a better understanding of grace and the love of the Lord has made me see Ecuador and things here with totally new eyes. This country is beautiful and screams, “There has to be a Creator”. I have been able to travel around the country and worship with my eyes and senses by climbing and hiking beautiful mountains, seeing breath taking sunsets, intricate and mysterious animals and snorkeling in those waters, carrying little babies with ponchos, and holding and helping old abuelitas. I have seen beauty as I have cried and laughed with beloved families at the difficulties of life in a third world country. I have also seen the joy of kids that don’t have shoes yet they do not know that the rest of the world would consider them poor. They just know how to be kids and laugh, and hug and love… I am learning a lot about being a beholder of beauty and how to convey and share that beauty that ultimately points out to a creator. A loving Creator God that sent his son to die on a cross.
-Job. Please pray for the Lord to open a job. I was preselected at two places that promised great jobs (for the Ecuadorian job market). I am waiting to hear from one of them and I am pretty sure I did not get the other one (mostly because of my next point on the this list.) Please pray for the Lord to open the perfect opportunity. I want a job that would be fulfilling and not a job that would take my attention from serving at my church and my focus from the eternal. The job market in Ecuador is really difficult and there are talks of extreme political and economical changes that could make things extremely difficult. Please pray for wisdom as I make these decisions being wise yet living by faith.
-California. As of a few weeks ago, a window re-opened for me to return to California and work as an Educational Therapist at Trinity Classical Academy. I find this to be a huge privilege and blessing. I have been getting emails and praying for beloved friends in the US that are having a hard time with their jobs… I thank the Lord that he would open a job that promises to be so fulfilling and with such a great group of people. Moreover, I am blessed that those people are so interested on me returning that they have been working hard on the tedious process for a work permit. Please pray for the Lord’s will on this.
Few other things
Please pray for my brother as he just moved to FL for college. Pray for the family especially for my madre. This is specially hard on her.
Please pray for my sister as she writes her “thesis” to graduate from college and her desire to pursue further education.
BSF. My dad is trying to start a “Bible Study Fellowship” group in the valley were we live. This would provide quality Bible instruction in the area. Please pray for God’s will with this.
Also, Please pray for my dad and his job. Also pray for Ecuador as our president is pushing a socialist agenda in which the new constitution has legalized abortion, same sex marriage and is starting to require missionaries to report what they do. And even forbidding the preaching of other “religious ideas” that go against what natives have believed for centuries.
Please pray for clarity with decisions and options.
Please pray as we are preparing a drama for church.
Also, I was invited to speak at a youth group in the area in the next couple weeks.
Pray for the local church and the work that the Lord is doing here. Our last few weeks we have been talking about sin and the Lord is convicting hearts and preparing the field.
Finally. I am thankful for all of you and your time. I am sorry for such a LONG email. I am praying for you and for the Lord to be put on display in your lives as well as in my life.
Please pray that I would be in love with the person of Christ more than working for God. With so much need around it is easy to be focused on doing and not on being in love with Jesus. I have seen this to be a struggle. I want my prayer to be that people would not be reminded of Juan because of my education, credentials, experience, personality, zeal for missions, connections, etc… but because I was so in love with the person of Christ, that makes Christ look so attractive.
Grace and peace

At the same time, I think that at this point *and I have been advised* the best and wisest course of action is for me to go back to Ecuador and wait for the answer there. By doing that I can wait for the answer while at the same time I can start building and scoping things in Ecuador if the Lord decides for me to stay there. I have been in the U.S. for the last 10 years so doing a good transition would be crucial. I have already bought my ticket and I am going to Ecuador June 11th.
So yeah... I will write a longer version of this with a lot more information eventually, but I just wanted to let many of you know as you have been so involved and caring on the process.
Please pray for the Lord to be glorified through it, and for His servant to keep learning to be a pilgrim and through the process keep learning that my citizenship is in heaven *as it is the case for many of you* and my eyes to be on the things from above.
Also... Let's hang out before I LEAVE!
Blessings.
J
